Clip the lavaliere microphone about 6 to 8 inches away from your subject’s mouth

Ask your subject’s permission to clip the lavaliere microphone on their shirt

​

Look out for jewelry or stray hair that might interfere with the lavaliere microphone

​

Aim the shotgun microphone at the sound source you want to capture

​

When it’s your sole microphone, keep the shotgun mic within close range to your subject, about 4 to 6 feet away

​

When capturing general environment sounds with the shotgun microphone, just aim the direction you want to capture
